Brexit Bus 1
This is a bus relating to Brexit:
This bus contains:
the lie that Britain sent £350 million to the EU every week.
the lie that if Britain left the EU, it would have an extra £350 million a week to spend on the NHS,
the lie that if the Tories did have extra money to spend, they would spend it on healthcare and not their rich friends,
and the unfulfilled pledge that the NHS would get an extra £350 million a week.
Brexit Bus 2
This is also a bus relating to Brexit:
This bus was set alight in rioting in Northern Ireland, the underlying reason for which was the internal border put up between the mainland of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, an internal border that Prime Minister Boris Johnson said in 2019 would never happen (see clip starting at 7:38):
Boris Johnson has been sacked from two jobs for lying so maybe his word is not the surest reason to believe something.
But I do have some sympathy for Boris. Britain faced the choice of:
Not having a border between the UK and the EU, which was impossible because it would have meant the UK had to obey the EU's rules without having a say in them, which would make it obvious that Brexit has gained us nothing and make the British government look stupid.
Having a border between NI and RoI, which would have violated the Irish government's interpretation of the Good Friday Agreement, and since Ireland is in the EU, the EU wouldn't accept it either, meaning UK wouldn't have a trade deal with EU, which would crash UK's economy.
Having a border between NI and GB, which would piss off NI Unionists greatly, and Tory backbenchers somewhat.
Given that the third choice was much less bad for the UK government than the other two, they had no real choice but to go for it. As Boris's former advisor Dominic Cummings put it, "I don't care if Northern Ireland falls into the fucking sea":
Of course, this could have have been avoided if Brexit hadn't happened, but we're a bit late for that now. I expect many NI Unionists are now regretting their support for Brexit.
