Keir Starmer has ruled out an independence referendum while he is Prime Minister:
Keir Starmer has said he cannot imagine another Scottish independence referendum taking place during his time as prime minister.
The Labour leader insisted it was more important to focus on the economy than the constitution
But to fix our economy, Scotland needs to control the levers of power. We cannot do this without independence.
Scotland's oil
A history lesson explains why. In the 1970s both Scotland and Norway struck oil. Norway, ruled by Norwegians, used its oil to benefit the Norwegian people: they set up a nationally-owned company to exploit the oil, so both the revenue and the work/skills went to Norwegians, and now they have a sovereign wealth fund worth £250,000 for every Norwegian.
Scotland, ruled by Westminster, took a different route. The oil was exploited by multinational companies, many of which paid Westminster politicians large donations, and was not taxed anywhere near as heavily as the Norwegian oil, so the benefits mostly went to those corporations. What did Scotland end up with? No sovereign wealth fund for us. Instead we got food banks, and some of the highest electricity prices in the world.
Westminster wants to steal Scotland's wealth
Starmer makes it clear that the Holyrood election in 2026 makes no difference:
the prime minister said an SNP victory at next year's Holyrood elections would not change his mind.
Of course not. As far as Starmer is concerned, what Scots think is irrelevant: he regards us as unruly peasants who should know our place. Even if every one of us voted for pro-independence parties it would make no difference to him, because Starmer hates Scotland and democracy. His own words condemn him.
Starmer and the rest of the Westminster ruling class -- including Nigel Farage -- want to imprison us in Westminster's shitty union, so they can steal our wealth.
What are we going to do about it?
Alba MSP Ash Regan criticised SNP leader John Swinney for not bringing up independence when he met with Starmer:
[Ash Regan], who defected to Alba from the SNP, said it was "concerning" that the First Minister had not raised the issue of a new vote on the constitution with the Prime Minister.
Sir Keir revealed on Tuesday the matter had not been discussed in talks he had had with John Swinney, adding it was not "a priority" for his government and he did not >believe one would happen while he was in office.
(Of course, we only have Starmer's word on that. And he cannot be trusted to tell the truth.)
But Ms Regan's hit out over the absence of a discussion on independence in talks between the two leaders. "If an independence supporting government doesn’t prioritise independence, then who will? Keir Starmer’s comments should act as a wake up call," she told The Herald.
Indeed, how we achieve independence should be the number one priority for all pro-independence politicians. Independence is the key that unlocks everything, giving Scotland the power to create a better society.
