The whole Reform vs the Tories thing; even if they don't formally overhaul the Tories electorally they have already warped their political thinking to be basically indistinguishable anyway. I'm kind of reminded of the last line of Animal Farm:

"The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which."

It may well be that, to make themselves palatable to Reform types, the Tories succeeding in masking themselves unpalatable to the rest of the country. Then they will be seen to have dug themselves into a hole.

There may be a point where Starmer could mischeviously re-open the Brexit debate by having a vote on rejoining EU.

And it hasn't even made them palatable to Reform types! If the Conservatives had wanted to win back Reform voters they should have made the case for why Reform was bad; instead, they have just legitimised them by aping them.

Indeed not. And if I was a Reform supporter it wouldn't sway me either, because when a ruling party throws away 14 years of their policies 12 days before an election they look like losing, it is self-evidently dishonest.

I will say one thing for Rishi Sunak: he has united the country, in that everyone whether they are on the left or on the right, is united in wanting rid of him.

"Most people don't think much about politics, except during elections. Because people are thinking about elections more, they are increasingly thinking they don't like the Tories". Well put!
