This reminds me of how the Irish Labour Party declined to stand in the 1918 general elections, letting Sinn Fein stand alone against the Irish Parliamentary Party on the issue of independence. They saw they could help the issue be clear.
I keep thinking I want to study it more too, and maybe write about it on my blog. Of course, since I first had that thought, I've spent a lot of time studying and blogging about a different revolution.
"Starmer will say no. Westminster calculate (correctly in my opinion) that they would probably lose an indyref, and very much want to hand onto Scotland, regardless of what Scots want"
For the record, I looked into Zack Polanski's stance - he supports an ADVISORY Referendum for the Scots - but the actual Referendum to leave the UK would be Referenda - plural - to decide the terms. He supports Democracy first and foremost. As we all should.
I'm really ignorant of UK politics outside of the semi-frequent headlines of PMs resigning and some gen info on the parties. What is the potential fallout for the UK were Scotland to vote in favor of independence, and are there stability risks for the Scottish if such a ref were to pass?
Scotland will probably get a majority of MSPs who favour independence.
But that doesn’t mean a vote for independence will take place, because Westminster would have to give permission for such a vote, which they don’t want to do as they think they would lose.
If there was an indyref, and indy won, transition to independence would be fairly orderly — for example similar to when Czechia and Slovakia peacefully broke up in the 1990s.
Hmm. Obviously can’t use “Velvet Revolution,” but my guess would be that Tartan Revolution is a word pairing worth copyrighting exactly right now, just in case.

That reminds me, I really will have to deeply study the process by which Ireland became independent some day.

If you do write about it, I'd be interested to read it.
Out of curiosity, does this stuff ever show up on prediction markets? Are y'all allowed to use them?
It does but -aha! Predictably, they seem to be all behind paywalls ;o)
There's no law against betting on elections. Kalshi have a market on how many seats the SNP will win: https://kalshi.com/markets/kxsnpmajority/will-the-snp-win-a-majority-in-the-scottish-parliament-election/kxsnpmajority-26may07
Do you mean 'hold on'?
